Do It Yourself, Fire-Starting Material

Self-Igniting Fuel

This method is a self-igniting fuel which is very volatile when the two parts are combined. At first it may not seem like it’s doing anything, but don’t be fooled at this!

Difficulty Level: 1 out of 5

You Will Need:

– Potassium Permanganate – found at pharmacies.
– Glycerine – convenience stores or pharmacies.

P 1

Step 1:

Place the permanganate on the item or surface to be ignited. If the crystals are a bit big, crush them a little bit between two spoons. The finer the powder, the easier it will combust itself.

Step 2:

Add a few drops glycerine to the permanganate by dropping it on top of it. No need to mix. We prefer using an eye-dropper for this, depending on the amount – usually it would be one part glycerine and two parts permanganate.

Step 3:

Leave it alone for a short while (a few seconds) and there you have it! It will start to smoulder, then ignite. In our example, it burned straight through the aluminium foil.
